The Avro Lancaster entered service with Bomber Command in 1942 and remained in production until 1946. Powered by four Rolls Royce Merlin engines, it was the RAF's primary aircraft for long-range bombing, mostly at night, completing some 156,000 missions. Its long, unobstructed bomb bay offered great versatility - capable of carrying the largest bombs, including the 'Tallboy' and Grand Slam 'Earthquake' bombs, and Barnes Wallis' famous bouncing bomb which cemented the Lancaster's place in history. Our tribute desk sculpture is cast in solid aluminium and polished to a high sheen, allowing its subtle curves and angles to catch the light.
