Developed in 1938 from a design that won the Schneider Trophy by aeronautical engineer and designer R.J. Mitchell, the Supermarine Spitfire became the hero of the Battle of Britain in the summer of 1940. Spitfires remained in service until 1961 – well into the jet age – by which time over 20,000 had been produced. As a tribute, our Spitfire sculpture is cast in solid aluminium and polished to a high sheen, allowing the subtle curves and angles to catch the light. Mounted on a tripod.
